Flim review of Slumdog Millionaire.

The story of Jamal's life includes him taking care of his family at age five he obtains the autograph of Amitabh Bachchan which his brother then sells followed immediately by the death of his mother during the Bombay Riots. Jamal's life stars at a big disadvantage.

I personally enjoyed this film the moral was great the film had a mixture of love, power, money, and action. Even though Jamal had no money or power he still looked ahead he showed that love is more than power and money. Another thing that i liked was the flashbacks it was a unique style to show the past. However some people did not like Slumdog millionaire because Amitabh Bachchan does not make actually act some people were let down by this. They should of used Amitabh Bachchan more in Slumdog Millionaire. Another argument can be brought up that it gives India a bad impression but i think that's the true about India and about meany other parts of the world.

Methods of research

Research:
The meaning of research is to do study on a subject or topic. especially to find out some thing new this can give you better understanding of what you are looking for. the word re means to do again or over again e.g i have to re do my homework as it was messy. the word search means to examine or to test and try e.g i searched for my book.

Primary research:
Primary research is any type of research that you go out and collect yourself(first person). Examples include surveys, interviews, and observations. A good researcher knows how to use both primary and secondary sources in her writing so that it will be more accurate. the word primary means first.

Secondary research:
Secondary research occurs when a project requires a summary or collection of existing data. As opposed to data collected directly from respondents or research subjects for the express purposes of a project secondary sources already exist. These secondary sources could include previous research reports, newspaper, magazine and journal content. Sometimes secondary research is required in the preliminary stages of research to determine what is known already and what new data is required, or to inform research design. At other times, it may make be the only research technique used. the word secondary means second.

Quantitative research:
Quantitative research is about asking people for their opinions in a structured way so that you can produce hard facts and statistics to guide you. To get reliable statistical results it’s important to survey people in fairly large numbers and to make sure they are a representative sample of your target market. case study, interviews, focus groups can be used for quantitative research.

Qualitative research:
Qualitative research seeks out the why not the how of its topic through the analysis of unstructured information things like interview transcripts open ended survey responses, emails, notes, feedback forms, photos and videos. It doesn’t just rely on statistics or numbers, which are the domain of quantitative researchers. using numbers and figures.

Pros and Cons about How social net work harmful?

Pros
Social networking sites allow people to create new relationships and reconnect with friends and family
Social networking sites allow provide free messaging, blogging, photo storage, games, event invitations, and many other services to anyone with access to a computer and the Internet.
Social networking sites bring people with common interests together, offer exposure to new ideas from around the world, and lower inhibitions to overcome social anxiety. People who have a difficulty communicating in person are more comfortable interacting via the Internet.
59% of students with access to the Internet report that they use social networking sites to discuss educational topics including career and college planning, and 50% use the sites to talk about school assignments. Some parents and teachers say that using these sites helps students improve their reading, writing, and conflict resolution skills, learn to express themselves more clearly, and meet new and different kinds of students from around the world.
Media helps one study showed that nearly three quarters of children from poor households have profiles on MySpace or Facebook. By using these websites, they have learned how to edit and upload photos and videos.
Studies have shown that being part of a social network has a positive impact, including increased quality of life. They help improve stroke recovery, memory retention, and overall well being.
Internet users have larger social networks than non-users, and using social networking sites to maintain those relationships facilitates more face-to-face interaction. Internet users are augmenting their offline social networks, not replacing them.
To make social networking sites safer for children, the sites have minimum age requirements and default settings based on the user's age to protect children. MySpace, for example, requires users to be at least 14 years old, and the profiles of all users under the age of 16 are automatically set to "private" so they cannot be found during a general search.

Cons

Social networking sites entice people to spend more time online and less time interacting face-to-face. The sites offer many time wasting activities that supplant more productive activities. Teens spend an average of nine hours per week on social networking sites.

Teens growing up with these sites may not be aware that the information they post is public and that photos and text can be retrieved even after deletion. Consequences from over-sharing personal information include vulnerability to sexual or financial predators and lost job opportunities from employers finding embarrassing photos or comments.

Social networking sites make cyber bullying, a type of bullying that occurs online, easier and more public than bullying through other online activities such as email and instant messaging. A 2009 study found that 17.3% of middle school students have been victims of cyber bullying. Victims often experience a drop in grades, decreased self-esteem, and other symptoms of depression.

The use of social networking sites can cause personality and brain disorders in children, such as the inability to have real conversations, limited attention spans, a need for instant gratification, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and self-centered personalities. The fast pace of the sites may rewire the brain with repeated exposure because parts of the brain used for traditional, offline activities become underused.

A false sense of security may leave social networking site users vulnerable to security attacks such as hacking, leaking sensitive information, and sending viruses.

The public nature of online profiles creates security risks about which most users are unaware. Cyber criminals can gather information to be used for identity theft from social networking profiles, such as birthdays, pet names, mothers' maiden names, names of children, and other details often used in passwords and security questions. Offline crime may result from posting personal information, like home robberies committed after a person announces vacation plans and alerts criminals when the home will be left unattended.

In our investigation we will find out weather social networks are harmful or not. We will discover this question by interviews and surveys.

Finding a story

Story -
1. What is being done to stop cyber bullying. I have chosen cyber bullying the reason for this is because some people are being cyber bullied and nothing is being done to prevent or stopped.
2. Is Four Lions funny or immature? I have picked this as i have seen the movie i think some parts are funny and some not. so is it funny or not this is what i will be looking at.
3. Does violent games make people violent? I have picked this because in the news there was a man that was in the army and as a result of playing games he ended up shooting the general.
4. Do celebrity`s effect the way that teenagers live? I have picked this seeing people around me following what celebs do so if they do something bad they might want do it too.

Research notes

Title: How is social network harmful to society.

Purpose: We are trying to show people aimed at Sidney Stringer student that what they are using is it harmful or helpful. A social networking site can be defined as an online service  that is based around the building and reflecting of social relations among individuals with common interests or social ties. Social networking sites such as Face book, MySpace and Twitter all vary slightly, yet the one main feature they have is that they enable users to create a profile within the website to represent themselves and allows uses to interact through email, instant messaging and other integrated communication channels within the site.

Audience: The audience is the student of Sidney Stringer school and others who use social networks.

Primary Research: When making the video we intend to find out that are the people that use social network websites safe we will do this by interviewing a number of students as well as some teachers. We will want to see if the users think if its harmful. We also will look for people that have been abused on Facebook and other social network websites.
Secondary research:
WASHINGTON—Social media present risks and benefits to children but parents who try to secretly monitor their kids’ activities online are wasting their time, according to a presentation at the 119th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association.
“While nobody can deny that Facebook has altered the landscape of social interaction, particularly among young people, we are just now starting to see solid psychological research demonstrating both the positives and the negatives,” said Larry D. Rosen, PhD, professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills.
In a plenary talk entitled, “Poke Me: How Social Networks Can Both Help and Harm Our Kids,” Rosen discussed potential adverse effects, including:
  • Teens who use Facebook more often show more narcissistic tendencies while young adults who have a strong Facebook presence show more signs of other psychological disorders, including antisocial behaviors, mania and aggressive tendencies.
  • Daily overuse of media and technology has a negative effect on the health of all children, preteens and teenagers by making them more prone to anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders, as well as by making them more susceptible to future health problems.
    • Facebook can be distracting and can negatively impact learning. Studies found that middle school, high school and college students who checked Facebook at least once during a 15-minute study period achieved lower grades.
Rosen said new research has also found positive influences linked to social networking, including:
  • Young adults who spend more time on Facebook are better at showing “virtual empathy” to their online friends.
  • Online social networking can help introverted adolescents learn how to socialize behind the safety of various screens, ranging from a two-inch smartphone to a 17-inch laptop.
  • Social networking can provide tools for teaching in compelling ways that engage young students.
For parents, Rosen offered guidance. “If you feel that you have to use some sort of computer program to surreptitiously monitor your child's social networking, you are wasting your time. Your child will find a workaround in a matter of minutes,” he said. “You have to start talking about appropriate technology use early and often and build trust, so that when there is a problem, whether it is being bullied or seeing a disturbing image, your child will talk to you about it.”
He encouraged parents to assess their child’s activities on social networking sites, and discuss removing inappropriate content or connections to people who appear problematic. (source is http://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2011/08/social-kids.aspx)
